How To Add Featured Content To Your Linkedin Profile

Have you seen the new ‘Featured’ section of your Linkedin Profile? This heavily customizable and media rich section of your Linkedin profile is a game changer for giving Call To Actions (CTA’s) that take a prospect off Linkedin.

It’s located below your About section and looks like this:

In this article we’ll talk about what the Featured section is, adding/updating different types of featured content, why it’s location on your profile is important, and using it as a CTA to get a prospect off Linkedin (and into your sales funnel).

What is the ‘Featured’ section of your Linkedin profile?

The Featured section of your Linkedin profile is a place where you can showcase different types of media. It’s similar to pinning content on your Linkedin company page and Twitter – but on your personal profile. And it’s much more robust. Linkedin will allow you to choose from four categories of media to feature:

1.) Linkedin posts (from the news feed)

2.) Linkedin articles

3.) Links

4.) Uploaded Media

Let’s talk about adding each type.

Adding a featured Post to your Linkedin profile

Clicking add new Post will display your most recent posts (from your news feed). Below the post click the word ‘Feature’ next to the star. You can feature more than one post. Once featured, if someone clicks a post link that’s in the featured section of your profile they’ll be taken to that post.

Adding a featured Article to your Linkedin profile

Clicking add new Article will bring up your most recent Linkedin Articles. Below the article click the word ‘Feature’ next to the star. You can feature more than one article. Once featured, if someone clicks a featured article they’ll be taken to that article.

Adding featured Links to your Linkedin profile (the  big one)

When you click add new Link you’ll be prompted to add a URL. That url can be a website link, image url, document, video, or presentation. All off Linkedin.  Click the blue ‘Add’ button and it will be featured. You can feature more than one link.

Once featured, if someone clicks your link they’ll be taken off Linkedin. WE ARE USING LINKS AS OUR PRIMARY FEATURED MEDIA BECAUSE IT CREATES A CTA OFF LINKEDIN TO OUR SALES FUNNEL PAGE.

Adding featured Media to your Linkedin profile

A little less fun but worthwhile. You can click add new media to upload an image, pdf, or other visual resource. Select from your local computer and upload. The media will be displayed on your profile and enlarged when clicked. At this time you are not able to upload videos.

How to update and rearrange featured Media on your Linkedin profile

While logged into Linkedin, view your profile page and click the pencil icon in the Featured section. This will display the edit Featured media window.

Z-Patterns and Featured Media

Most Western countries read from left to right in something called a Z-Pattern. That means when someone views your profile their eyes will typically follow this pattern:

When someone views your profile they’ll see your headshot, text (boring), more text (boring), more text (boring), then an image. Make it count because it really stands out.

Using the Featured section of your Linkedin profile as a CTA

We’re using Links as our featured media. As an example in the screenshot above we’ve featured the link https://zeeko.io/free. The page’s thumbnail gets pulled in. If someone likes the image and clicks it they’re taken off Linkedin to our email opt-in page on our website. This is the first time Linkedin has made leaving a profile easy and appealing.
